The Clucking Best: Top 5 Chicken Wing Spots in Key West

Top 5 Best Chicken Wing Places
Chicken wings were invented in 1964 at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York, by Teressa Bellissimo, the owner of the bar. My first experience with chicken wings was in 1979 in Las Vegas at a small local pizza parlor run by my good friend Ted Mantis from New Jersey. Now, Americans consume about 300 wings per person per year – that's a lot of cluck, I mean bucks!

Wing Master (934 Truman Ave) $1.30 per wing
If you're craving some mouth-watering wings, look no further than Wing Master on Truman Ave. They have truly mastered the art of cooking these delectable fast-food staples. Their wings are hot, fresh, and served with the classic pairing of chunky blue cheese. You'll be transported back to the good old days with their meaty wings, deep-fried and bathed in a delicious hot sauce. Be prepared to use at least 10 wet naps to clean up after devouring these finger-licking treats.
Bobalu's Southern Café (301 US-1) $1.60 per wing
While I promised to stay on the island, I couldn't resist trying Bobalu's Southern Café on Big Coppitt Key (mile marker 10). This old dive of a bar/restaurant (very clean) is sign memorabilia heaven, and their wings are the biggest, made the traditional old-school way with hot sauce and served with blue cheese.
Pickles Pub's Sandbar (511 Greene St.) $2.50 per wing
If you're looking for a spot right in the action, head over to Pickles Pub's Sandbar, located just across the street from the famous Sloppy Joe's. But be prepared to pay a buck more for their wings - priced at $2.50 per wing. They sell you the wings by the pound to confuse non-mathematical geniuses (FYI: Each pound equals about 4-5 wings). The wings come with a generous choice of 13 sauces (my belief is that only one sauce should be presented on wings, and that is the traditional hot sauce). However, the best part is on Wednesdays after 4 pm when they are half off! That's right, indulge in our delectable wings at a fraction of the cost, or I should say, going back to a normal price of $1.25 per wing. See you on Wednesday!
Hogfish Bar (6810 Front Street) $1.90 per wing
This bar is a popular spot owned by Bobby Mongelli, a self-made millionaire from Key West. If you're looking for something different, try the Hogfish Jamaican Jerk Wings. They're full of delicious flavors that are smoky, hot, spicy, sweet, and even a bit fruity. Personally, I still prefer the traditional hot sauce, but there's an old saying, "if you're in the tepee, smoke the pipe!" Hogfish is known for its excellent service, great bar, laid-back atmosphere, and delicious food.
Geiger Key Fish Camp (5 Geiger Road) $1.90 per wing
Another entry formerly owned by Bobby Mongelli. This restaurant is located off Mile Marker 10. It's a real cool outdoor restaurant with picnic tables right on the water. They have some of the best people working for Geiger, which is why the place is always packed. Hey, free parking too! But Geiger also serves up some hot, tasty wings with some ice-cold beer out of a large steel tank trough.
